About the "Translate" project view

Although the "Manage" tab of your Loco dashboard can be used to edit translations, it's primary purpose is managing your project. If you're focused on translating multiple items quickly then the "Translate" tab will be more efficient.

Navigating between assets

You can navigate through the assets either with your mouse or using the arrow keys on your keyboard. When you've finished typing, hitting Ctrl ↵ (Enter) will move you to the next untranslated asset.

If your cursor is focused in a text field, hold the Ctrl or ⌘ Cmd key while you press the arrow keys.

Saving your changes

As you edit translations you will see a :star icon: appear against the assets you've modified. This means they are unsaved. You can edit as many assets as you like before saving, just remember to click save or use the Ctrl S keyboard command to commit all your changes to the project. We recommend saving every completed translation as you go.

Switching language

The source texts shown in the editor are in the project's default language, but you can switch to any source language for comparison using the first dropdown list above the editor.

If you have permission to edit more than one language in a project, you can switch between them with the second dropdown list above the editor. If any languages are not editable you will see them disabled (greyed out) in this list.

Editor modes

• Toggle "invisibles" with the :pilcrow icon:
  With this mode enabled you will see otherwise hidden characters such as spaces and line breaks. This makes it easier to match the spacing of the source text.

• Toggle "monospace" mode with the :code icon:
  With this mode enabled the translation text fields become like a coding editor. Basic HTML and string formatting elements are highlighted.

• The :full-screen icon: strips away some of the user interface to maximise the size of the editor.
  Click it again or press Esc to return to normal.

Toggling list columns

The top part of the editor lists all the assets that are translatable. Clicking the title bar of each column reorders the list alphabetically by its content.

The dropdown list on the far right hand side allows you to switch the following columns on and off:

• Source text
  This is a stripped down preview of the current translation's source text. It excludes line breaks and formatting.
• Translation
  This is a stripped down preview of the current translation being edited. It excludes line breaks and formatting.
• Asset ID
  Off by default. This is mainly used by developers, but may provide useful information about what the translation is for.

In addition to these columns you may have asset aliases defined. If you see a column called "Name / description", this is one such custom alias.

Filtering the list

The asset list can be filtered by three parameters controlled by dropdowns above the editor:

• Filter by tag
  Selecting a tag from the dropdown list will filter the current view down to only assets tagged with the selected option.

• Filter by status
  Selecting "translated", "untranslated" or one of the flag options filters the list down to just translations in the given state.

• Filter by keyword
  The text field performs keyword filtering of the list. The more you type, the less you get.
