About the "Manage" project view

The "Manage" tab of your project dashboard is designed for organizing your project. You can edit translations from this screen, but mainly this is where you'll manage your translatable assets and other project settings.

If you're a translator, clicking the "Translate" tab will open the translation editor, which is more streamlined for fast translation of assets.

Side panels

On the right hand side of the management screen are five smaller tabs as follows:

• Locales
  This is where you manage the languages you'll be translating into. When you first start a new project you'll only see your source locale, so add at least one target locale to get going. See adding new project locales.

• Project team
  This tab is where you'll begin assembling your team members. See adding team members for more detail. You can also manage custom roles from this tab if you have a Pro account.

• Project bots
  From here you can manage and run your non-human team members. See more on project automation.

• Tags
  You can manage your project's tags from this tab. See more on tagging assets.

• Status
  You can manage your project's translation states from this tab. See more on translation states and flags.

Project menu

Above the side panel, there are a number of links that open modal windows. These appear in the same location on all project screens (Manage, Translate, Import) and depend upon what permissions you have in the project.

• Project settings
  This opens the current project's settings if you have permission to edit them.

• Developer tools
  The button with the :wrench icon: provides access to your API keys. You will only see this tab if you have developer permissions in the project.

• Export translations
  The button with the :download icon: provides access to the export tools and/or spreadsheet exports, depending on your project permissions.

• Project Activity
  The button with the :feed icon: shows the same activity feed as you see on your main dashboard, but filtered for just the current project.

• Project Progress
  The button with the :bar chart icon: opens the project completion statistics. Click each locale charge to see more detail for each language.

Asset list

The main part of this screen shows your project's translatable assets in a long list. When you first start a project you will have to either add an asset manually, or use the import tool.

Once you have assets in this list you access the following functions for each individual asset:

• Editing asset properties
  The :cog icon: opens an asset's properties. See creating assets for an explanation of each option here.

• Deleting an asset
  The :trash icon: opens a confirmation for deleting an asset permanently. Be aware that deleting an asset will delete all its translations across all languages.

• Translation progress
  The :bar-chart icon: opens a progress report for translations of the asset. To see progress across the entire project, click the same icon at the top of the screen. See more about progress.

Filtering the list

The asset list can be filtered by four parameters controlled from the toolbar above the list:

• Switch locale
  Selecting a project locale from the dropdown list will set the current locale for the view. Clicking a locale from the side panel does the same.

• Filter by tag
  Selecting a tag from the dropdown list will filter the current view down to only assets tagged with the selected option. Clicking a tag in the side panel does the same.

• Filter by status
  Selecting "translated", "untranslated" (or one of the flag options) filters the list down to just translations in the given state. Clicking a state in the side panel does the same.

• Filter by keyword
  The text field performs keyword filtering of the list. The more you type, the less you get.

The first three parameters are also supported by the export API when you click "Export translations" in the project menu. The text filter is only supported in the UI.

Translations

Clicking on an asset in the list will open it to show the current translation. From here you have more functions specific to just the currently selected locale.

• Erase translation
  The :eraser icon: completely empties the translation, but does not delete the asset. The asset will then show as if it had never been translated with all previous revisions and comments being deleted. If you don't want to erase the complete history, just save an empty translation instead.

• Suggest translations
  The :robot icon: opens a modal window with suggestions from any machine translation bots you've configured.

• Add a comment
  The :comment icon: opens a window for commenting on an individual translation. If you tag your team members in a comment they will receive an email notification.

• Revision history
  If a translation has been edited more than once you can click the :history icon: to see all recorded changes to the translation text. See revisions for more detail.

• Plural forms
  The :plural icon: allows you to manage pluralised translations of the asset. See managing plural forms for more detail.

Editing translations

The translation editor is the best place to do rapid translation, but you can make edits from this screen too. Just enter your changes in the text field and either click the "Save" button or press Ctrl-S.

Saving a translation will mark the asset as translated in the current locale, but saving an empty form field will revert the translation to an untranslated state. However, the dropdown list next to the save button gives you more control over translation status:

• If a translation is entered you can flag it as requiring attention so it shows as red in the language completion.
• If a translation is empty you can mark it as redundant with one of the special empty states.

Batch actions

The tick boxes along the left hand side of the asset list allow you to operate on multiple assets at once. With at least one asset selected you can do the following:

• Tag multiple assets
  The :tag button: at the top of the list opens a window where you can specify tags to add or remove from all selected assets.

• Flag multiple translations
  The :flag button: at the top of the list opens a window where you can specify a flag to apply to translations of the selected assets.

• Delete multiple assets
  The :trash button: at the top of the list opens confirmation window to delete all selected assets.

• Auto-translate multiple assets
  The :robot button: at the top of the list opens a modal window for running a machine translation bot on the selected assets.

Note that a batch operation may not be applicable to every asset in your current selection:

• Only assets you have permission to modify will be updated.
• Only empty translations can be marked as redundant blank types.
